Thomas Tuchel Criticizes Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Win Over Wales.
The England head coach voiced his sadness that the Three Lions team did not get stronger encouragement from the home crowd during their impressive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
The manager was pleased to see his side showcase their strong performance, with strikes from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes effectively ending the match. But, he was not content with the mood at the national stadium.
“With limited training days to prepare against a drilled team and we excelled,” the coach stated. “It could have been 5-0 up at the break. We missed the additional goals. It was quiet. There was no support from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you deliver in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s sad because the team earned better encouragement today.”
“I stand by this statement. There’s nothing more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I hoped for a little more backing in periods where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It could have helped us to recharge, but that’s football and that is it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Apart from potentially starting a dispute among fans, the manager also created controversy by leaving out Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the move was justified by Morgan Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and getting his first international goal.
“He plays his game,” Tuchel said. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his place.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Defeat
Craig Bellamy hopes that his team, who face a strong Belgian side in a crucial qualifying match on next week, learn from their poor performance in the opening period.
“This is why I scheduled this friendly,” Bellamy stated. “I wanted to assess our current level. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with drive.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Watkins was substituted at half-time after hitting a goalpost and is a concern when England play Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on Tuesday.
