The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show draws close, there’s always an outcry for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often modest productions, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
