Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport Following Significant Control Tower IT Issue
Air travel have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial ATC system failure halted all operations.
All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an systems problem that arose around 08:30.
Several flyers reported being stuck in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.
Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
That said, significant disruption are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others experiencing delays.
An airport representative had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.
"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the latest information on their booked journeys," the statement added.
Root of the Disruption
The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.
Passengers are still being urged to check the status of their journey before traveling to the terminal as knock-on effects are worked through.
